Edinburgh, with its cobbled streets and historic charm, is a city brimming with culinary delights waiting to be discovered. During my solo trip to this enchanting Scottish capital, I had the pleasure of stumbling upon Makars Mashbar—an establishment that promises the best of mash food combined with authentic Scottish cuisine. Let me take you on a journey through my delightful experience at Makars Mashbar.

From the moment I stepped foot into Makars Mashbar, I was greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance that set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The cozy interiors, adorned with rustic accents and subtle lighting, brought a sense of comfort and relaxation. The friendly staff, with their genuine hospitality, made me feel comfortable even though I was dining out alone. ps: dining out alone still makes me bit nervous even after many years of solo traveling.

As a first-time visitor to Scotland, I was eager to immerse myself in the flavours of traditional Scottish cuisine, and Makars Mashbar did not disappoint. With an extensive menu boasting a variety of mash dishes paired with classic Scottish fare, I found myself spoilt for choice. After much deliberation, I decided to indulge in a selection of their signature dishes.

For my main course, I opted for the lamb shank with mash—a hearty and comforting dish that gave me the essence of Scottish comfort food. The tender lamb shank, slow-cooked to perfection, was served atop a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes infused with cheddar and a hint of hive, combined with great amount of delicious gravy. Each forkful was a symphony of flavours, with the richness of the lamb complemented perfectly by the creamy mash.

In addition to the lamb shank, I couldn't resist trying Makars Mashbar's take on two quintessentially Scottish dishes: haggis and Scottish eggs. The haggis, made from beef and seasoned with heather honey, was a revelation. Paired with a velvety turnip puree, it offered a delightful blend of savoury and sweet flavours that danced on my palate.

As for the Scottish eggs, they surpassed all expectations. Encased in a golden breadcrumb crust, the perfectly cooked eggs nestled within a savoury sausage mixture, creating a harmonious combination of textures and tastes that left me craving more.

In conclusion, my experience at Makars Mashbar was nothing short of exceptional. From the warm hospitality of the staff to the exquisite flavours of the dishes, every aspect of my visit exceeded my expectations. If you find yourself in Edinburgh craving a taste of authentic Scottish cuisine, look no further than Makars Mashbar. Trust me—you won't be disappointed.
