Hampi, a place that has it all – from ancient ruins and temples to vibrant party nights and breathtaking sunsets. It's a must-visit destination for any travel enthusiast. This gem offers a rich blend of food, culture, tradition, history, and art, making it a perfect getaway for a short weekend trip or an extended week-long exploration.

Here's a detailed 3-day itinerary tailored to my own journey, starting with my travel from Hyderabad via an overnight train – an excellent choice for budget-friendly travel.

Day 1:

The train arrives at Hospet around 8 in the morning, although delays may occur. A 20-25 minute drive takes you from Hospet to Hampi, easily accessible through public transportation or by hiring an auto.

Opting for an auto ride from Hospet to Hampi, I struck a deal with the driver for a comprehensive tour of Hampi's traditional side, acting as my guide. We agreed on a reasonable rate of 750 rs. My stay was booked at Padma Guest House, conveniently located just 3-4 minutes from Virupaksha Temple, the street bazaar, and a mere 7 minutes from the riverbank.

While the traditional side offers a glimpse into ruins and temples, I recommend avoiding hotel bookings in this area. The real charm lies on Hippie Island, known for its laid-back lifestyle and vibrant party scene. Freshen up, have breakfast, and explore the traditional side on the first day. Witness a stunning sunset, take a coracle ride for 50 rs, and catch the last boat to Hippie Island by 6 o'clock.

Consider staying at Padma Guest House or any hotel near Virupaksha Temple for easy access to Hampi Street Bazaar, offering Boho dresses, antique jewelry, healing stones, and more at affordable prices. Don't miss out on the famous Mango Tree restaurant for a taste of Israeli cuisine.

Day 2:

Starting my day at 8 am from the traditional side, I headed to Hippie Island. Renting a bike for as low as Rs.200 per day plus an additional 100-200 rs for petrol is a cost-effective way to explore the island.

Discover nature spots with the help of locals and choose your stay based on your preference for partying. Nargilla offers a lively atmosphere with a crowd, while Jungle Tree provides a more intimate experience.

Recommended activities include rock climbing, music healing, indulging in Israeli food, coracle rides, and shopping at Hampi Street Bazaar.

Total Cost:

  • Trains to and from Hyderabad: around 850 rs

  • Hospet to Hampi (1-day sightseeing in auto): 750 rs

  • Stay for 2 nights: 600 rs/night (sufficient for two people)

  • Coracle ride: 50 rs

  • Scooter and petrol: 300 rs with petrol

  • Food: approximately 250 rs per meal; try local stalls for budget breakfasts ranging from 20 to 40 rupees.

  • Boat ride: 20 rs

  • Hampi to Hospet by bus: 25 rs

Total estimated cost per person: around 4500 rs (Costs may vary based on the number of people and days).

*All costs are in Indian rupees.
