For as long as I can remember, experiencing a European Christmas has been a dream. While Europe boasts numerous breathtaking destinations for the enchanting holiday season, I've been fortunate enough to revel in the festive spirit of London Christmas on two occasions. A pivotal part of this magical experience lies in exploring Christmas markets—indulging in mulled wine, savoring the extra pinch of spices, treating yourself to creamy hot chocolate, and perusing through delightful arts and crafts. Beyond mere shopping, these markets offer a magical escape, warming your soul amid the chilly London atmosphere. Join me as I highlight some of my favorite markets that you absolutely must not miss this Christmas.

Kingston Christmas Market

If you would like to enjoy a European style Christmas in British setting, Kingston Christmas Market is a must to visit for you in London this Christmas. Personally, I can't get enough of Kingston, and here's why you shouldn't miss out on this enchanting market. From enticing food stalls to a captivating Art Fair and impressive Christmas installations, Kingston Christmas Market promises an unforgettable experience. It's not just a market; it's a picturesque location that begs to be the backdrop for your cherished Christmas pictures. What sets Kingston Christmas apart? It's the thoughtful separation of venues for food, bars, and entertainment, creating a harmonious holiday atmosphere. As you stroll through the market, you'll find yourself surrounded by the festive spirit, and it's all beautifully complemented by the Christmas market nestled in the historic All Saints Church. Situated in the southern part of London, Kingston isn't just a market; it's a perfect day trip destination. If you've yet to explore this side of London, now is the time. And why not extend your visit by exploring the nearby Hampton Court Palace, just a stone's throw away from Kingston High Street? Make the most of your Kingston Christmas Market visit by joining in on the festivities. Enjoy sing-along sessions, treat yourself to the best local entertainment, and perhaps indulge in some merry, drunken dancing. After all, 'tis the season to be jolly!

Christmas by River

Experience the festive enchantment of Christmas on the River in London, where the iconic cityscape transforms into a winter wonderland. As the twinkling lights reflect on the flowing Thames, this celebration promises an unforgettable holiday experience. Immerse yourself in the magic of intimate Christmas markets lining the riverbanks, offering delightful crafts, seasonal treats, and unique gifts. Revel in the joyful atmosphere as Christmas carols fill the air and delicious aromas wafting from street food stalls. This merry celebration extends until January 1st, making it the perfect destination for post-Christmas cheer. Capture the scenic beauty, relish the festive vibes, and make your holiday season truly memorable. Join us in embracing the spirit of Christmas on the River and let the magic of London's iconic waterway add an extra sparkle to your festivities.

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland lives up to its hype, featuring a hidden gem—a wonderful Christmas market. Despite its potential for overwhelming crowds, it's a destination you simply can't afford to miss, especially when it comes to its hidden gem – the enchanting Christmas market inside. Winter Wonderland's charm extends beyond its bustling exterior, featuring a delightful Christmas market that often goes unnoticed by many visitors. Amidst the festive hustle and bustle, discover a haven of wide-ranging market stalls where you can relish in Christmassy delights and find the perfect gifts for your loved ones. Treat your taste buds to the quintessential Christmassy flavours available at the market. From mouthwatering festive treats to unique gifts, Winter Wonderland's Christmas market promises a diverse range of stalls catering to every holiday whim. Make sure to indulge in one of Winter Wonderland's specialities – pigs in blankets with cranberry sauce. The market offers a unique culinary experience, and trust me, having tried them for the first time here, I can vouch that you won't find similar delicacies outside of this festive haven.

Covent Gardens Christmas Market

Discover the enchantment of Covent Garden's Christmas market, renowned for its whimsical fake snow, which I affectionately deem a delightful "shambles." Despite the playful chaos, the market exudes magic with its red-light Christmas tree and quintessential British architecture. This festive haven is your go-to spot for the perfect cup of mulled wine. Whether you're celebrating with loved ones or enjoying a solo adventure, Covent Garden's market, open until January 7th, promises a fun outing on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. Embrace the new year with the market's latest installations inspired by traditional golden bells. These captivating additions serve as a compelling reason not to miss Covent Garden during this holiday season. Plan your visit accordingly, as the market and its whimsical fake snow operate daily from 12 pm to 9 pm. Note that the magic may not unfold if you venture after 9 pm, as we learned the hard way on one memorable occasion.

Ladies, a quick heads-up – if you boast curly or wavy hair, beware of the fake snow's potential hair-raising antics. Save yourself from unruly curls and potential hair horrors by seeking refuge in a dry spot. You can find more information about the market here.
